Beside the obvious bias of The Reading Eagle by not adding their famous “Editors Note” mentioning Doug Didyoung as the township engineer for Muhlenberg Township as they do with known Republicans and Conservatives when they attempt to write a letter to the editor (or the sperm), I find it disgusting that they allowed Doug Didyoung to spew such hypocritical nonsense claiming he “fought against communism” when in fact he has embraced communism. Here is the quote from Doug Didyoung that I’m talking about.
“People know I am a proud veteran who fought against communism: for the rights of all people, especially those who could not speak for themselves; for this nation’s ideals and freedoms, including due process.”
Now this quote makes me sick and very angry as well since he has done nothing of the sort. As a matter of fact Doug Didyoung was a major player along with that Gulag of a police chief named Erik Grunzig in extorting my mother out of her property. I think I need to point out what these dear champions of freedom or in this case communism were responsible for.
Doug Didyoung it was YOU who started all this extortion by trampling on The Constitution of The United States by telling my mother that she has no property rights to her home, because of The Homestead Act Of 1862 (which was repealed in 1976) giving her older siblings “Blood Rule” as you referred to it, as the property was previously owned by her parents, and permitting Harry A. Heckman Jr. to dump motor oil, used appliances, and several other items of trash on the property. It was YOU who ignored several township codes to be broken by John A. Heckman Sr. to dump asphalt onto my mother’s property as one of many extortion attempts by him. All of this lowered my mother’s property value to the point where she had no choice but to do a short sale because our dear family members trashed it, and polluted it to the point where it would be impossible to afford to repair it which was given the blessing of YOU and that Stalinist Gulag of a police chief (then sergeant) Erik Grunzig by permitting attempted arson on her property, and the assault of my two boys by Patricia Heckman when they were playing in the backyard by telling me that “The Mother Ship did it”.
Bottom lines is Doug Didyoung you are simply a political hack that has been in a position of political power for far too long and you would wipe your ass with the constitution if given the chance. Not once did you grant any request from my mother to see the lies made by her older siblings, or grant any request to see evidence of anything you said. Remember this Didyoung, you may have served in the military, but so did Benedict Arnold and that’s exactly what you are.

Come now Matty, Muhlenberg Townshit is doing what they need to do to get the old hicks out of their homes and replace them with NY commuters.
According to my Dad, Erik Grunzig was caught some time ago spewing this, saying something along the line of these commuters will give his police department a 45% increase in revenue if they can get rid of all the hick squatters in the township.
I relocated to Houston, TX from Hyde Park back in 1999 because I got a job offer that could never be possible in Berks County. I’ve been trying to get my parents to relocate down here with me, as my dad is ready to retire next year.
As I’m sure you will agree, the people of Berks County will never prosper beyond their mini economic depression, because all they know how to do is cling onto the past and chase away anybody that wants to bring ideas to the community. Unless you are a lawyer, banking professional, or desire a career with Sheetz or Wawa, that’s all Berks County has to offer.

You have hit the nail on the head Anonymous in regards to the template of thinking in Berks County.
Erik Grunzig is simply a product left over from the Steve Geras years and as I’m sure you know Steve Geras was the ultimate Stalinist. Now let me be clear I don’t group Erik with all the Muhlenberg Police Officers as I know a couple of them and even went to high school with them and they are really decent people and really believe in making a difference for the better.
The thing that cracks me up is that Erik Grunzig just sees the gold at the end of the rainbow in regards to these NY commuters, but either he does not see it or chooses to ignore the criminal element that comes with it. Just look at Wyomissing, and other suburban areas where these people from NY are buying houses and later discovered they are growing weed, cooking crystal meth, and manufacturing who knows what other illegal substances. By the time you factor in all the liabilities that come from these people from NY from crime, drugs, insurance costs as police officers would be put at a higher risk, etc., The Muhlenberg Police Department would be losing revenue, not gaining it, and in the process taxes would simply go up to keep those vital services running.
The bottom line is it will only get worse for police departments not just in Muhlenberg, but Berks County in general. When you have gas prices going through the roof as they are today, you will get more of these thugs moving in from NY to save on costs, because lets face it Reading is a major drug trafficing hub. Compared to NY the real estate is cheap despite property taxes, and is located in such a way that makes it easy to move these drugs back to NY, or NJ, DC, Baltimore, or Philadelphia. As I said to an old friend of mine who is a police officer with Muhlenberg, “Let’s face it, you and I both know that this is not the same Muhlenberg that you and I grew up in 15 years ago”.

Steve Geras was beyond a Stalinist, but an outright criminal who got off pretty darn easy.
Allow me to share a Steve Geras moment. I was playing baseball in M.T.A.A. back in 1989 when this happened. I just finished my game and the teams would get free pizza and soda afterwards. While we were waiting in line Steve Geras is stumbling like he’s drunk or high into the concession both and tells the moms running it that he needed to take a register drag with a little giggle after he said the word drag. He pulls the money from the drawer and literally stuffed the wad down his pants not in his pocket, but in his pants. I later found out he took about $200.00. What’s even more insane is that he did the same thing later that night when my brother Gavin got done playing in a Mite game where he took almost $100.00. To put more gas on the fire my brother’s team carried the equipment into the equipment closet since they were the final game of the night, and who do they find snorting a line of coke with some weird looking guy? Yes Steve Geras. All the parents including the coaches told us to keep our mouthes shut if we knew what was good for us, because Steve Geras was “untouchable”.
Let’s face it Steve had the police, the other commissioners and the district justice wrapped around his finger. I have to admit I’m in a bit of disbelief that M.T.A.A. did not tank after all those years of Geras stuffing the funds in his pants. He was the classic political boss that would instill fear by extorting people and if they did not comply Doug Didyoung would find a “code violation” on their property, or their property would be “reassessed”, or any other way to make their life pure hell.
By the way my parents and I relocated in 1994 because of these types of techniques used by Muhlenberg Township and especially Doug Didyoung.
June 23, 2008 at 9:42 pm
Very interesting statement Dark Knight. I find it interesting on two fronts in regard to Steve’s coke use, and his desire for stuffing money down his pants. Remember I wrote a piece about how M.T.A.A. did such a wonderful job raising money, but yet we were dealt with crappy uniforms and equipment in some cases the equipment being unsafe when I played in 1987 and 1988. This is a typical no brainer for Steve Geras and his antics.
Now in regards to his coke use, I can believe you 100% on that because I’m going to let everybody in (hope you are reading MPD) on another scoop. Steve Geras did cocaine because my uncle Harry A. Heckman Jr. was his main supplier. You see my uncle Harry who may I remind you is in bed with Erik Grunzig and Doug Didyoung in extorting my mother from her home used to shake down the Hispanics on 9th street in Reading for all the drugs he could get his hands on and resell them. That’s how they kept the boosters club running next to that pile of shit mushroom house for all these years.
Remember they hate me because I’m the good guy. When people hear the last name Heckman they jump to the bad element of my family and I had to fight for years to convince people that I’m not that kind of person. I did not want to graduate high school take a job at Dana to steal as much material as possible, get drunk and puke and smoke dope every night like Uncle Harry, and cousin John A. Heckman Sr. and the rest of them, but I wanted to take my life somewhere in a good way. I wanted to pursue a career and set goals for myself and achieve success, which despite all the road bocks in my way over the years, I overcame it all, and I’m an even better person for it.
Bottom line is the rest of my family are a prime example of what the result is in spoiling your kids, because they had everything handed to them without working for it, and myself being raised by a single mother I knew early on in life not to limit myself to small dreams and small goals like the rest of my family did. Erik Grunzig made a snide post on this site a couple of years ago saying how wonderful that element of my family was, and it just comes to show you what kind of character Erik Grunzig has.

Speaking of corrupt public officials, does anyone know what’s happening with the Reading Codes Department and the Mayor’s harrassment campaign against Stefan’s mother?

All I know is a city employee repaired Cynthia’s step last Sunday, free of charge too!
Hmmm… looks like Mayor Marshmellow lost again.

I’m commenting on the constant bashing words from Matt Heckman. Criticism is great, but the way you criticize shows what kind of person you are. I don’t know these people you bash, but it is possible to disagree with someone, and not call them a “shit headed fuck up”. Instead of sitting at your computer, trying to come up with insults, why don’t you run for office if you think you can do better? You come off as a bitter, angry person, who blames the world for his troubles. I have nothing against you, and what I’m saying is “constructive criticism”. It’s very easy to feel bitter and complain, when all you do is feel bitter and complain. I’m a very conservative person, but your comments insult the rest of the republicans out there.
July 26, 2008 at 4:01 am
Just wanted to comment on the “and the rest of them” part of your rant. We are not all like alike, some of us actually live “normal” successful lives. I could see the ppl in question being the way they are, but dont drag the rest of us down.
July 29, 2008 at 11:36 am
Well if it is not the infamous Laura Folk from Muhlenberg Township. How’s the extortion business going?
So you don’t like me calling The Muhlenberg Township Commissioners “Shit Headed Fuckups”? Well too bad, because I believe in calling a spade a spade, a jackass a jackass, and a cock sucker a cock sucker, and that’s exactly what most of Muhlenberg Township consists of…. Cock Suckers
Oh and by the way I’m sure you noticed I’m not your typical RINO Republican, and if you would listen to people like me, the republican party would not have lost in 2006.

Distant Relative,
I am at least going to respond to you without hiding behind anonymous labels which is more than you or any of my family gave to my mother.
My mother gave most of her life taking care of my grandmother in her elder years, because most of you were too damn lazy to even visit her at Christmas, or when she was in the hospital most of you would just say “let me know when she croaks”. How do you people repay her for her kindness? You extort her from her home by using terrorist thug methods.
Let’s see let me just start out with my aunts and uncles.
Harry A. Heckman Jr.: Drunk, Pot Head that produced a home wrecker, and five other deadbeats.
Liz Levanti: Coke Head who thinks being wealthy is her birthright.
Patricia Gordon: Drunk, Coke Head that produced a bulimic and a drunk cripple who put himself in a wheelchair by driving drunk as a skunk.
If there is one thing any of this taught me is that I did not want to be like them. I’m proud of myself. I never drank and drove, I never did any illegal substance in my entire life, and I’M PROUD OF IT! Make no bones about it, I’m Matt Heckman and I’m better than each and every one of those poor excuses listed and unlisted that are my “family”!
July 30, 2008 at 4:02 am
My name is Patrick Heckman Jr. My name should of been irelevant because I was not looking for an argument with you. I was simply pointing out that to say “all” Heckmans are…well whatever you want to call the rest of us, I can only laugh at this ignorance. The fact that you would even make a comment that you are better than someone else just reinforces the fact that your thinking is right in line with theirs. It is unfortunate what happen to your family, but, do include “all” Heckmans in your rants. Your still the angry kid in front of the computer from the looks of it, just like I remember when we would stop by at Christmas. Oh by the way I dont get along with my immediate family to good either but I dont go as far as name calling on a website, I’d like to think im above that.

P.J. I must say it’s been a long time since I saw or spoke to you. It must have been quite a few years. I do apologize to you, because you are indeed not like “them”. I don’t consider myself “angry”, but outspoken.
You see P.J. your dad is one of the main factors that started this whole thing. It started when your dad approached my mother out offering her 80K for the house when at the time it was appraised at 125K back in 2003 and improvements were added since. He felt he should not have to pay a penny more because it was the family homestead as they called it. My mother was looking to sell the property to move into something smaller since I relocated out of Berks County, and she did not want to maintain the place by herself as she recovered from a mild stroke a few years earlier. Your a smart guy, so as you know at the height of the real estate boom naturally you know the appraisal will be much higher. It was later apprised at 145K. Your dad knew that the only way he would have any hope in getting it cheaper would be to implement methods to devalue it which is where your uncle, my cousin John A. Heckman, Jr. and that bitch of a wife of his Pat (not name calling you know that to be true) were willing to do the dirty work.
John & Pat and your grandfather Harry A. Heckman Jr. proceeded to attempt to set fire to the bushes they did not like, dump motor oil and asphalt along the alley way into my mother’s property, draining the pool in the back yard in the middle of the night costing her massive water bills to maintain it, and what really got me angry was when Pat nailed my then one year old son in the head with a rock thrown over the fence while he was playing in the back yard. That’s where the bitch crossed the line, and that pig Erik Grunzig refused to arrest her and told me to like it and that the mother ship did it. Then Erik Grunzig goes next door to John pats him on the back and tells him “Don’t worry we got your back”. Two hours later your dad calls my mother offering 75K. Every time they vandalized her property, an offer would come, and what did the police do about it? Not one damn thing, because they were in on the action.
When my mother went to Doug Didyoung for help, she got feed a line of shit by being quoted from a law that was repealed (see my past posts) claiming “blood rule” and letters from my aunts and uncles lying through their teeth. They lied because John, and your grandfather promised them a piece of the action ($$$) when my mother was successfully forced out. John to this day even admits it, and so does your grandfather and my aunt Liz.
You see P.J. I spent a ton money out of my pocket in efforts to improve her home that I was saving for buying a house myself, because I wanted my mother to have a little peace of mind and I figured oh well I will buy when the bubble pops. Sadly those efforts got ruined. Every time I fixed, or arranged to have something fixed it was suddenly vandalized later to accompany an offer from your dad to buy the place on the cheap. So you can say I have every right to be angry.
Mark my words if Erik Grunzig, Doug Didyoung, and our “beloved” family members that were involved with this think for one damn second they are out of the woods, they better think again, because it will be a matter of time until my mother pools the legal resources necessary to nail their asses to the wall, and for Erik Grunzig getting his balls off of condoning the assault of a one year old boy by that stupid bitch I will tell you right now that son of a bitch does not deserve to wear his badge, and every legal resource will be used to make sure that all of these scumbags involved with this will be brought to justice.
July 30, 2008 at 1:21 pm
Well, I hope you are able to do something against the corruption in Muhl. I myself do understand the real estate business (I own 2 homes right now) so I can see what you were saying, boy did the housing boom die. Who owns the home now? I heard my father moved but I have no idea where to.
Most of us younger generation Heckmans do not follow in the ways of the older generations. Speaking for my brothers….David is in college(think for nanoscience or to be a Math teacher), James owns his own granite business, Joseph…well hes still in school so hes getting there but hes a bright kid. I left and went on my own when I was 17. Like you, I put myself through college, and worked hard and long for everything I have so I can understand your anger towards certain Hecmkans. Like I said, I hope you are able to get things sorted out, and bring the corruption to an end.
July 30, 2008 at 2:32 pm
As to who owns the place now all I know is it was a younger couple. My mom settled on a short sale, and only netted about 5K to 6K out of it which she at least able to payoff what she owed in her divorce and a little bit for savings. She’s doing ok, but feels frustrated that she might have to retire at 70 instead of 62 or 63 like she was hoping for before the whole incident happened.
I can relate to you about the taint in the Heckman name because of the older generation. Aside of economic reasons that was another reason to relocate where people don’t hear your last name and the image of your grandfather comes in their head.
If I had a dollar (even with the value dropping) for every time I heard a story about “Mr. Sonny” screwing somebody over in one way shape or form, I could retire right now.
The only one of my uncles who has common sense is my uncle John W. Heckman, where he actually relocated out of Berks County to get away from your grandfather for similar reasons I mentioned. I can remember at your great grandmother’s funeral your grandfather was flicking his brother’s ear trying to piss him off to provoke a fight. He just knows no bounds.
I also have a few connections in Harrisburg with the DEP and if you could see the report on your grandfather’s old property on Herb road it would make your hair curl. To this day there is still serious pollution on that property. Over half million dollars was put into environmental cleanup that Muhlenberg Township had to pay for, and instead of going after Harry for the damages and recovering some of the taxpayer expense, the township gave your grandfather a free pass, and made the taxpayers eat the cost. Even right now there are legal measures by some of his former neighbors to sue his pants off. One thing I will give the older generation credit for and that’s they were able to command and control the structure of good ole boy style governments and that if you are in that circle you are above the law, but if you are not, than you are an enemy of that style of government. A vast majority of Muhlenberg Township’s commissioners wheeled and dealed with your grandfather back in the Dana days, and we would need an unlimited amount of time to focus on the corruption of that machine.
The thing is the older generation put all their eggs into one basket with Dana, East Penn., Reading Tube, etc. and milked all the freebies over the years, and now that they killed their golden goose, they feel entitled to take money from everybody else.
