Due to the commitment that is required of me for my job, and juggling a family, and once again relocating, I find it more difficult to get time to contribute to this site like I used to. I therefore decided that I’m going to put this site on Hiatus for a couple of months as I’m in dire need for a break. Now lets be clear, this site is going nowhere regardless if my commentary is less and there will be contributors to this site that will carry it on if I indeed decide to take less of a role in it.
This latest relocation is not to be mistaken for the recent events that happened as a result of my defense of Keith Stamm, but my career is growing by leaps and bounds to a point that I have to focus on my work, and family as they will always be put first before anything else. Plus I just bought a house, and my wife can be demanding on the decor
I hope to return around July, or August depending on how events fold out, and there will be updates posted here as to the status of it. I want to take this moment to thank all of my loyal readers no matter if they agree with me politically or not for checking out this site, and I wish you all a wonderful summer, and hope to be chatting soon.
Yours Truly,
Matt Heckman

Stefan isn’t pulling any punches on /citycouncil.htm
Reasonable criticism of both Council and the Administration.
Boscov is a tax pimp and McMahon is his finest tax whore!

Jim Keller had another letter to the editor in the Eagle the other day, this one defending pot growers, the Haver’s to be specific.
I think Jim smoked another banana peel…

Perfect timing too as the police busted another major marijuana manufacturer in Reading. Between 200 and 250 pounds of sweet cheeva, worth $100 a quater ounce… or more if top shelf quality!
I am a schmuck, I work hard and am getting poor as I can’t keep up with inflation because I don’t enjoy 20% pay raises every year to keep pace with rising prices.
Ron Paul is right.

Word on the street is Tom McMahon has the Codes Department harassing Stefan’s mother, citing her for a piece of broken concrete on a porch step. Reading is crumbling all over, I’m sure Cynthia is a big problem that needs special attention from the Codes.
And get this… they cited her the very next day after Stefan spoke at the last City Council on April 14th, where Stefan was guilty of ‘Keeping It Real.’
April 28, 2008 at 8:44 pm
Codes was at 1542 Centre Ave about two years ago and the junk car in their driveway was supposed to be removed… it’s still there. There’s also a pop-up camper that they pulled the plate off of and parked on Pear Street right behind their property three years ago…. yeah codes does a banner job! Oh… and it’s a rental property…way to go codes. They keep running their mouths about slumlords while picking on the decent ones.

I could not help but comment on Stefan’s issue.
Stefan,
If you are reading this I would not take it lying down, and I would not hesitate to call him on it on record in a council meeting. Muhlenberg Township and members of their police department including chief Eric pulled the same bullshit with my mother in their attempts to extort her from her property, and I was first up at bat to call the bastards on it. I for one am sick and tired of these bastards using taxpayer resources for personal attacks towards law abiding citizens.
Lori,
It seems that the only time these elite punks care about enforcing the laws in the book is if it benefits them either personally or politically. Equal protection under the 14th amendment is worth dog shit to them. Makes you wonder if the reason they fear the pledge of allegiance so much is just because we are one nation under God, but the part that mentions “And Justice For All”.
For God sake I cut through Reading a couple of weeks ago visiting my mother, and I saw at least 2 McMahon for mayor campaign signs still up. You can bet if those signs were Keith’s or Jennaro’s they would be getting called on it.
April 29, 2008 at 12:53 pm
Campaign signs on private property are not a violation of any law, but campaign signs left on the public right of way after 2 weeks beyond the election are subject to fines.
I watched City Council last night, and Stefan spoke about Bill 21 - 2001, in which Mayor McMahon is trying to regulate the electoral process in the City of Reading by forcing all political canvassers who are not authorized by a specific candidate to file for permits and be severely restricted in their activities.
Nice call on the Constitution of the Commonwealth of PA, Declaration of Rights, Article I, Section 5:
“Elections shall be free and equal; and no power, civil or military, shall at any time interfere to prevent the free exercise of the right of suffrage.”
What is Tom McMahon thinking?
That he can deny political opponents the right to canvass voters for their support?
Stefan hit the nail right on the head, perhaps the problem here is the mayor is convoluting two separate problems and rolling them together in one ordinance. Limit the ordinance to solicitation, which is a problem in the city, and exclude the political canvassing aspect of the ordinance, or surely some citizen’s group will file litigation against the City of Reading for this affront on political freedom!
I commend Stefan for continuing to stand up to Team McMahon and the other bullies in city government despite this alleged abuse from the Codes Department. I must also point out that the home two doors up the street from Stefan’s mother was missing it’s entire front porch for over three years, the guy just recently fixed it before he sold the property. We complained to McMahon’s Codes Department the entire time and they never once cited the home owner for something that was an actual danger to the public. Nothing like walking up a flight of stairs, it’s a little dark because it’s night time, and you fall into the open pit where the front porch is supposed to be. Far worse then a little piece of concrete broke off the corner of a step.

Hey Robert,
To clarify those McMahon signs were around telephone poles on N 11th St. near the baseball field and Sander’s funeral home.
Now come on it’s not a bad front porch, it’s mother nature’s trapdoor
to use a little Muhlenberg Township spin lingo. Or maybe the rotting crack houses are simply filling in a void since the kiddie castle was torn down LOL
The whole issue comes down to codes. Just like our nation’s neglect to secure our borders and enforce our laws this is no different. Reading could be cleaned up in a year if the elected bozos had the desire to do it. I can’t remember if it was Jennaro, Stefan site or somewhere, I read a proposed plan about a joint effort between Police and a beefed up codes department being able to successfully sweep the city in a year which could result to a budget surplus. If I find it I’ll let you all know.

On the subject of Stefan’s block… I previously lived there for 14 years. I repeatedly tried to get codes to do something about a property at the corner up and across from where Stefan is. They had a wood burning stove that vented out the wall of the first floor rather than the roof as required. The smoke blew right up against my windows forcing us to live in a house that always smelled like it was on fire. The fire department even said it had to be corrected… and nothing.
For years they had no down spout from their second floor roof. They had a pipe running across the roof and it poured down onto our wooden basement door rotting it away in a very short time.
They were remodeling the inside and only started working at 10 or 11 at night…. circular saws, hammering on adjoining walls…. for hours each night.
I wrote the owner a letter about these issues and stuck it in his letter slot. I also informed him that any further damage to our property would be submitted to HIS home owner’s insurance company. He came over banging on the door and proceeded to throw the crumpled up letter at my teenaged daughter while ranting and raving that he would have me arrested for putting a piece of mail through his slot that didn’t go through the post office as the law states…. my reaction was…. are you fucking kidding me?
This same property had scaffolding up for an extended period of time (if I recall correctly it was a couple of years).
The corner property and the attached property are owned by the same person and they tore down interior walls to make it one big house… codes also said they did it in a way that was a violation, and with no permits…and again nothing.
The best part of this story is that the property was owner occupied….no slumlord involved…oh, and the guy owned his own business…. a building supply store…. hahahahahaha. Gotta love the codes department. They bitch about being too busy, yet houses like this where they have come and witnissed the violations still go unchanged.
Instead of McMahon and Council coming up with all these stupid ideas that will do nothing more than further punish the ones who follow the rules they should clean out the codes department and get people in there that are capable of following through with their jobs. Then they should make the penalties tougher for those who are repeatedly a problem.

I read the story in the Reading Eagle and I am curious why McMahon is pushing Bill 21-2008 (21st bill of year 2008) unless he truly does want to control the political process for future elections in the City of Reading.
Mr. Kosikowski is just the only citizen who cared enough to stay vigilant and keep an eye on this crooked Administration we have today.
Where are all the other people who sought elected office last year?
Where was Angel Figueroa?
Where was Dennis Moyer?
Where was Joe Eppilheimer?
Do any of these people care about what’s going on in Reading’s corrupted government or is Stefan the only one?
May 1, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Figueroa, Moyer, and Eppilheimer, the Three Stooges!
No really, these guys just want an easy job where they fel important. Try and find out what their plan or vision is for Reading’s future, including important aspects like employment for it’s citizens and not just minimum wage jobs that no person can live off of, let alone support their family.
Crime is certainly tied to economic opportunity, and that retard Jason Bruderick in his colomn today cites the Heritage Foundation as credible?
Are you kidding me?
These are another corporate think tank from Washington D.C. that lie for a living!
Of course crime rates declined from 1934 through 1938… DUH, as the federal government provided them with a job so they could support their families again. Try researching the WPA and the CCC for starters.
Try a little historic fact checking next time Mr. Bruderick.

Hmmm… April 28th I posted my comments on this blog about a pop-up camper sitting out back and nothing being done about it… then today… May 22nd it finally vanished. I emailed codes about this issue a year or two ago and got nothing… So Matt… I’m thinking your blog must be popular in City Hall.

Oh they read this, to be sure.
They were quite upset when they heard about Al Boscov and the hilarious pictures Matt posted… the Tax Pimpin’ GIMP!
