October 22, 2006 by Matt Heckman.
We are now only weeks away from the election and I saw Jim Reitnour has already stated on who he is going to vote for. I pretty much agree with him on everything except for governor.
While I have the up most respect for Russ Diamond, and his efforts, he’s not on the ballot, and the chances of conducting a write in campaign on the state level are slim to nothing. I do encourage Russ Diamond to regroup to fight another day, because people do indeed need more choices.
Now that places me in what is more realistic. Swann, or Rendell? Yes Swann did support Brightbill, and Jubby The Plum, and some components of his property tax reform bill to have some cons, but they do have some pros to them such as overhauling the real estate assessment section which I believe would put the brakes on this over bloating development binge that has been burdening the tax payers. Everybody on both sides has agreed that development is the main problem with soaring property taxes. Also lowering the corporate net income tax is another great idea. This will encourage more private investment, and the returning the Personal Income Tax to 2.8% will put even more money into the people’s pockets. Let’s face it the only people this will hurt are tax pimps like Al Boscov. We will get the money out of these tax pimps and into the hands of the private sector.
Now for Rendell. If you people reelect him, he will become emboldened, and even more arrogant with the idea that he is above accountability. We all know his agenda will not work. The slots will not fund education and we all know it. We will be facing higher property taxes, higher income taxes, and higher sales taxes, and even a slower economy in the next 4 years under Rendell.
Bottom line is we need a different direction, and yes we can debate forever about limited options this election, however with Swann’s ideas, and a new house and senate, and tons of new blood coming to Harrisburg in January we can only make progress compared to Rendell who only suppress, or veto any type of reform these new people would throw on his desk.
Now if Rendell does get reelected don’t come crying on the following.
Don’t cry when you have to pay 7% sales tax on every purchase that will really hurt such as buying a car, home improvement projects, etc.
Don’t cry when your vehicle registration goes up to over $60.00 from $32.00, and that is just for a car.
Don’t cry when you are paying 25 cents a gallon more at the pump to fuel your vehicle, and have to fuel more often because you are stuck in congested highways, or bumpy roads, because the gas tax will only fund SEPTA.
Don’t cry when you have to pay over $100.00 per year for the local EMS tax from $52.00.
Don’t cry when Comcast is your only option to television and Verizon is being denied the right to compete with FIOS in this state.
Don’t cry when you have to start showing ID to purchase everything under the sun the government thinks you can get high on.
Don’t cry when the income tax rate goes even higher from its current 3.08%.
Don’t cry if you end up loosing your home due to high property taxes.
Don’t cry when you start to get tickets for red light cameras, or speeding cameras as Rendell would deploy them all over the state.
Don’t cry when you have to start paying tolls on other Pennsylvania roads other then The Pennsylvania Turnpike like I-80, I-79 which will divert truck traffic around those highways depriving revenue from truck stops across the state.
Don’t cry when your rights to own and purchase guns are taken away.
Don’t cry when the rights of criminals, and other thugs are more important then yours.
Did I miss any? Remember we need a Governor of Pennsylvania, and not a Governor of Philadelphia.
