That was the response from Alan Piper the head of the Berks County Planning Commission on the future of any road projects to ease congestion. Piper also mentioned that it will only get worse, because of the lack of funding from Harrisburg.
Folks I don’t care what political party you belong to this attitude by Alan Piper is unacceptable. We can have the necessary funding for our entire state if we want to. Now If Harrisburg can flip 15 million in pork to projects in Reading that no economic data indicates will have any impact, but we can’t even improve our transportation infrastructure? We can flip 9 million dollars to the Goggle Works, but we can’t invest into the Schuykill Valley Metro Rail project which every bit of research has proven to be a boom for Reading, Pottstown, and every other area to Philadelphia this train would go to? For crying out loud the booming economies would expand the tax base so far to the point where revenue to Harrisburg would pay for itself and some. People in these areas are BEGGING for this line especially along the 422 corridor where if anybody ever drove it during rush hour would understand.
Now I’m going to give Stefan Kosikowski credit on something here folks, because he is right on about this. We can disagree, but I feel Stefan deserves credit on this since he has been outspoken about this type of thing going on for a long time. Stefan has constantly talked about the corporate welfare being handed out by our state to corporations that under the natural flow of capitalism would have fell on their face, but contribute a ton to people like Rendell, O’Pake, Brightbill, and the rest. Al Boscov is a prime example of this folks. Al Boscov can pimp 15 million dollars of our tax money to pork projects, but where the hell is Al Boscov when we need money to put into hour highway system which is 50 years out of date in some areas? Where is Al Boscov when he claims to care about the City Of Reading so much, but yet he never once considered putting a Boscov’s store on Penn St.? Where is Al Boscov when he claims to love Reading, but won’t donate to help the cash strapped Reading Police Department clean the criminal elements of the city which are key to making Reading an economic powerhouse once again? Hats off to Stefan Kosikowski for his efforts in exposing this.
Everybody should remember this, because when we go to vote in a couple of weeks you need to vote these people out. Alan Piper should be ashamed for making such an ignorant statement like this. Comments like this and what people like Al Boscov do should be a direct insult toward our intelligence.
Time to fight back at these people folks. Remember no matter what people say to you IT CAN BE DONE.
