This is the expression of anybody that travels Pennsylvania Highways. In Pennsylvania we pay over 30 cents a gallon in gasoline taxes, but we never see any results on our highways. I was on Interstate 80 a couple of moths ago coming in from Ohio, and from the State line to the Interstate 81 Exit it was all brand new, smooth concrete. After driving over 250 miles of the road I almost forgot I was in Pennsylvania. The thing that gets my goat is that the Pennsylvania Turnpike charges tolls to fund that highway, but anybody that drove on it knows the highway to put it nicely is a piece of crap.
Then there is Interstate 176 that goes between Reading, and Morgantown. The concrete road is seriously crumbling to pieces, and is in need of massive safety improvements such as guard rails, because if you are on the south bound lanes, and go off the left and side of the road you will go for a 10 to 15 foot drop straight down with no guard rail to stop you from going over the edge.
I think we need to get in touch with David Brightbill, and Mike O’Pake to see if they want to donate their pay hikes to improvements on Interstate 176, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and ask them where that highway tax money is going to. Let’s just say I would not hold my breath.
